Alice in Chains storms ahead with renewed positivity (interview)

Es alentador escuchar al bajista de Alice in Chains Mike Inez con un humor tan alegre. Mientras que la veterana banda de Seattle de Hard Rock  disfrutó de un éxito artístico y comercial masivo a principios de su carrera, los miembros de la banda han sufrido dolorosos desvíos y pérdidas personales en el camino.

Hablando por teléfono la semana pasada de Tulsa, Oklahoma, en la primera cita de Alice In Chains en la actual gira norteamericana, Inez es realmente optimista , positivo y se le ve con ganas de tocar:

«Hemos estado ensayando y perfeccionando nuestra puesta en escena este mes» , dice. «Hemos estado de gira por Australia , Singapur, Japón y Europa , así que es genial estar de vuelta en los Estados Unidos para tocar y viajar en nuestro propio autobús de gira. Todos nos sentimos muy bien. Seguimos siendo simplemente cuatro individuos que hacen una gran cantidad de ruido , y tenemos un equipo fantástico ayudándonos. es una bendición para nosotros ser capaces de viajar por todo el mundo y tener a la gente que se presenta para vernos tocar » .

Inez y sus compañeros de banda , el vocalista / guitarrista Jerry Cantrell , el batería Sean Kinney y el nuevo vocalista / guitarrista William DuVall , han estado de gira todo el año en apoyo de su álbum de estudio nominado al Grammy «The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here.» Fechas adicionales en Europa con Metallica están en el horizonte .

«No importa donde toquemos , todo es lo mismo para nosotros , incluso si hacemos una parte acústica en un tour. Hemos tocado con las bandas más duras y a la la vez hemos hechos actuaciones acústicas, simplemente hacemos lo nuestro y vivimos el momento. Cada concierto es diferente, pero siempre nos topamos con viejos amigos y fans , por lo que es siempre un placer. Hemos estado haciendo esto por más de 25 años, y si alguna vez llegamos a un punto en el que no disfrutamos, sólo tendremos que detenernos » .

It’s encouraging to hear Alice in Chains’ bassist Mike Inez in such a cheerful mood. While the veteran Seattle hard-rock band enjoyed massive artistic and commercial success early in its career, the band members have endured painful detours and personal losses along the way.

Speaking by phone last week from Tulsa, Okla., on the first date of Alice in Chains’ current North American tour, Inez is genuinely upbeat, optimistic and eager to perform.

«We’ve been rehearsing and breaking in our stage set this month,» he says. «We’ve been touring through Australia, Singapore, Japan and Europe, so it’s really great to be back in the States to play and travel in our own tour bus. We’re all doing great. It’s still just four guys making a lot of racket, and we’ve got a fantastic crew helping us out. It’s a blessing for us to be able to travel around the world and have people show up to hear us play.»

Inez and his bandmates, vocalist/guitarist Jerry Cantrell, drummer Sean Kinney and new-guy vocalist/guitarist William DuVall, have been touring all year in support of their Grammy-nominated studio album «The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here.» Additional dates in Europe with Metallica are on the horizon.

«No matter where we play, it’s all the same for us, even if we do an acoustic leg of a tour. We’ve played with the heaviest bands and acoustic acts out there, and we just do our thing and live in the moment. Every show is different, but we always run into old friends and fans, so it’s always a pleasure. We’ve been doing this for more than 25 years, and if we ever get to a point where we don’t enjoy it, we’ll just stop.»
