David Lovering (Pixies): «Kim Deal is irreplaceable»

A vueltas con la salida de Kim Shattuck de Pixies, David Lovering, batería del grupo ha explicado a Brooklyn Vegan que Kim Deal era insustituible.

Cuando estábamos dando tumbos tras la marcha de Kim Deal fue una decisión dura. Básicamente nadie puede reemplazar a Kim Deal. Sería imposible hacerlo. Kim Shattuck, la habíamos contratado para la gira europea y eso terminó hace unas semanas, y habíamos trabajado con Paz Lenchantin en el pasado, probablemente por la misma época en la e estábamos viendo lo de la bajista. Paz es maravillosa. Va a estar en la siguiente porción (de conciertos). Es lo que hemos estado haciendo y con suerte será bueno.

El músico también habla de su preferencia por escoger bajista femeninas.

Queríamos alguien que fuese una personalidad, creo, y especialmente en el lado femenino. La misma fórmula que habíamos usado. Creo que si tuviéramos un tío ahí, no sería lo mismo. No podríamos hacer lo de Pixies. Sería un poco demasiado masculino. El lado femenino le da el Ying y el Yang. Como dije, nadie podrá reemplazar a Kim Deal. Es imposible pero vamos a intentar hacerlo.

When we were in the lurch when Kim Deal left it was a tough decision. Basically, no one can replace Kim Deal. It would be impossible to do. Kim Shattuck, we had actually hired her for the European tour, and that had finished a few weeks ago, and then we had worked with Paz in the past, probably around the same time we were looking at trying to figure out the bassist. Paz is just wonderful. She’s gonna take over for the next portion of it. It’s just what we’ve been doing and hopefully it’ll be good.

We definitely want someone who can just be a personality, I think, and especially on the feminine side. Just the same formula that we’ve used. I think if we had a guy up there, it wouldn’t be the same. We couldn’t pull off the Pixies thing. It’d be a little too masculine. The feminine side gives it that Yin and Yang. Like I said, no one will be able to replace Kim Deal. It’s impossible, but we’re doing the best we can with it.
