Interview with Kim Thayil: Soundwave

I caught Kim on a remarkably patchy Seattle home phoneline, but managed to get some cool things out of him, including whether he’s excited about Soundwave and the sideshows.

“Oh yeah definitely. It’s pretty huge and elaborate, a lot of hard rock, metal and a few alternative hard rock bands.”Some tentative (and compassionately considered) plans for the setlist:

“Matt usually comes up with the set lists cos it’s physical demanding, and the greatest demand is placed on him, since he has 4 independent limbs that are moving along to whatever we choose. It will be material from all 7 of our original releases, and we do have an opportunity to play King Animal songs this time.”AND some pretty funny and cool stories from their time with other bands on the bill.

“We’ve played with the Smashing Pumpkins, I’ve met Marilyn Manson on a number of occasions.
Faith No More we’ve played with the most. Our history with Faith No More goes back to 1985 or 86. We played with Chuck Mosely on shows in the North West, we opened for Faith No More in a bar in vancouver and they wouldn’t let Chuck Mosely into the country because he had a prior conviction. it was a minor thing but they wouldn’t let him in, so Roddy ended up doing the vocals.
