El boom del Grunge en los 90s no ocurrió sin precedentes. Antes de que el mundo hubiera escuchado a Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden y Alice in Chains, los clubs del noroeste ya estaban enganchados al sonido de grupos como Hitting Birth, Vampire Lezbos, Chemistry Set, y Thrillerhammer.
“Loser: The Real Seattle Music Story” de Clark Humphrey y “Everybody Loves Our Town” de Mark Yarm son unos de los cuantos libros que ponen la escena del Grunge en su verdadero contexto. Ahora viene el equivalente en audio. “No Seattle: Forgotten Sounds of the North-West Grunge Era 1986-97,” se lanzará el 9 de septiembre, en CD, vinilo y formatos digitales.
La compilación contiene 23 diferentes bandas, generalmente desconocidas hoy pero con algunos nombres conocidos en sus formaciones. The Ones tenían a Jack Endino en el bajo, antes de que Endino se convirtiera en el productor de Sub Pop en la época floreciente del Grunge. Cuando Bundle of Hiss decidieron separarse, el batería Dan Peters se unió (y todavía toca con ellos) a Mudhoney, mientras que el bajista Kurt Danielson se fue con los pesos pesados TAD. Y después de su aventura con Kill Sybil, la batería Patty Schemel se convirtió en la batería de Hole.

The grunge boom of the ’90s didn’t happen in a vacuum. Before the world had heard of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains, Northwest clubs were ringing to the sounds of acts like Hitting Birth, Vampire Lezbos, Chemistry Set, and Thrillerhammer.
Clark Humphrey’s “Loser: The Real Seattle Music Story” and Mark Yarm’s oral history “Everybody Loves Our Town” were among the few books that put the grunge scene in this wider context. Now comes the audio equivalent, “No Seattle: Forgotten Sounds of the North-West Grunge Era 1986-97,” set for release September 9, in CD, vinyl, and digital formats.
The compilation features 23 different bands, largely unknown today but featuring a fair number of familiar names in the lineups. The Ones featured Jack Endino on bass, before Endino became Sub Pop’s go-to producer for the burgeoning Seattle music scene. When Bundle of Hiss went their separate ways, drummer Dan Peters joined (and still plays with) Mudhoney, while bassist Kurt Danielson took up with the heavyweight TAD. And after her tenure in Kill Sybil, drummer Patty Schemel became the drummer for Hole.

Miembros de las antiguas bandas de Sub Pop, Love Battery, TAD, y The Fluid, se han juntado para formar un supergrupo, Vaporland, que acaban de lanzar su disco homónimo debut.
Según el co-fundador de Screaming Trees, Van Conner, quien está lanzando Vaporland en su sello, Strange Earth Records, el grupo consta de: el bajista de TAD Kurt Danielson, Garrett Shavlik de The Fluid, Ron Nine y Kevin Whitworth de Love Battery y el vocalista Katie Scarberry.
Conner dice que la banda “se juntó simplemente para rockear y pasarlo bien» y describre la música de la banda como «Angular, con algo de post punk etéreo, pop psicodélico» con un montón de Blues ” El proyecto ha sido producido por el productor de Seattle Jack Endino. Members of Sup Pop’s early flagship bands Love Battery, TAD, and The Fluid have joined together to form the supergroup Vaporland, which has now released its debut self-titled album.
According to former Screaming Trees co-founder Van Conner, who is releasing Vaporland on his label Strange Earth Records, the group consists of TAD bassist Kurt Danielson, the Fluid’s Garrett Shavlik, Love Battery’s Ron Nine and Kevin Whitworth, and vocalist Katie Scarberry.
Conner says that the band “got together for no other purpose than to rock and have fun” and describes the band’s music as ”angular, driving post punk and ethereal, psychedelic pop” with “blues-drenched licks.” The project was produced by Seattle producer Jack Endino. Below, listen to the band perform their eponymous song “Vaporland”:

Según Reed Mullin de Corrosion of Conformity, Teenage Time Killer, un proyecto paralelo con su compañero de banda Mike Dean comenzó como una pequeña aventura. No ha quedado exactamente de esa manera, sin embargo, ya que ahora personas de la talla de Dave Grohl, Corey Taylor de Slipknot y Jello Biafra de Dead Kennedys y varios otros están todos dispuestos a unirse a la diversión.
En declaraciones a una emisora de radio de Nueva York Mullin explicó; «. Teníamos a todas estas otras personas que quieran participar. Es una muy buena mezcla de lo viejo del hardcore punk, punk y cosas de metal … Para la gente va a ser una grata sorpresa. Es muy bueno.«.

According to Reed Mullin of Corrosion of Conformity Teenage Time Killer, a side project with bandmate Mike Dean started off as a little venture. It has not exactly stayed that way however as now the likes of Dave Grohl, Slipknot’s Corey Taylor and The Dead Kennedys’ Jello Biafra and a number of others are all lined up to join in the fun.
Speaking to a New York radio station Mullin explained; «We had all these other folks that want to participate. It’s a very good mixture of old hardcore punk, punk and metal stuff … People are going to be pleasantly surprised. It’s pretty cool.»
And it certainly sounds like it will. Others involved include ex-Queens Of The Stone Age/Kyuss bassist Nick Oliveri, Black Flag’s Keith Morris, Soulfly’s Max Cavalera, Neil Fallon of Clutch and members of The Misfits, Municipal Waste, Red Fang, My Ruin, Prong, Goatsnake, Brujeria and Articles Of Faith.
There is no set release date for the project yet.
