A vueltas con la salida de Kim Shattuck de Pixies, David Lovering, batería del grupo ha explicado a Brooklyn Vegan que Kim Deal era insustituible.
Cuando estábamos dando tumbos tras la marcha de Kim Deal fue una decisión dura. Básicamente nadie puede reemplazar a Kim Deal. Sería imposible hacerlo. Kim Shattuck, la habíamos contratado para la gira europea y eso terminó hace unas semanas, y habíamos trabajado con Paz Lenchantin en el pasado, probablemente por la misma época en la e estábamos viendo lo de la bajista. Paz es maravillosa. Va a estar en la siguiente porción (de conciertos). Es lo que hemos estado haciendo y con suerte será bueno.
El músico también habla de su preferencia por escoger bajista femeninas.
Queríamos alguien que fuese una personalidad, creo, y especialmente en el lado femenino. La misma fórmula que habíamos usado. Creo que si tuviéramos un tío ahí, no sería lo mismo. No podríamos hacer lo de Pixies. Sería un poco demasiado masculino. El lado femenino le da el Ying y el Yang. Como dije, nadie podrá reemplazar a Kim Deal. Es imposible pero vamos a intentar hacerlo.

When we were in the lurch when Kim Deal left it was a tough decision. Basically, no one can replace Kim Deal. It would be impossible to do. Kim Shattuck, we had actually hired her for the European tour, and that had finished a few weeks ago, and then we had worked with Paz in the past, probably around the same time we were looking at trying to figure out the bassist. Paz is just wonderful. She’s gonna take over for the next portion of it. It’s just what we’ve been doing and hopefully it’ll be good.
We definitely want someone who can just be a personality, I think, and especially on the feminine side. Just the same formula that we’ve used. I think if we had a guy up there, it wouldn’t be the same. We couldn’t pull off the Pixies thing. It’d be a little too masculine. The feminine side gives it that Yin and Yang. Like I said, no one will be able to replace Kim Deal. It’s impossible, but we’re doing the best we can with it.

En Facebook, el ex baterista de The Gits Steve Moriarty ha llamado a un boicot contra la cadena NBC en relación con un programa en relación con la brutal violación y asesinato de Mia Zapata :
True Crime in the Dark de la NBC * (o algo igual de mal gusto ) recientemente filmó una recreación de la muerte de nuestra amiga Mia Zapata. Utilizaron actores y música enlatada . Traté de tener conversaciones normales y lógicas con los productores de la serie , sin embargo , la NBC no creía que el uso de la música de The Gits o filmaciones de Mia tocando en directo mereciesen la pena de ser pagadas por los derechos de licencia habituales y justas según lo establecido por la ASCAP , BMI y la Industria de la música .

On Facebook, former Gits drummer Steve Moriarty has called for a boycott of NBC related to an upcoming show concerning the brutal rape and murder of Gits singer Mia Zapata:
NBC’s True Crime in the Dark* (or something equally as tasteless) series, recently filmed a reenactment of the murder of our friend Mia Zapata. They used actors and canned music. I tried to have civil and logical conversations with the producers of the show, however, NBC did not think that using The Gits music or film footage of Mia playing live was worth paying customary and fair licensing fees as established by ASCAP, BMI and the recording Industry.
There is nothing artistic, musical or positive about the re-telling of Mia’s brutal death. Nothing except a cheap way for NBC to sell ads for a younger, hipper demographic which the network desperately needs.
The piece will air in June and does not have the endorsement of any of the band, Mia’s family or immediate friends. It is simply, Gitsploitation and I suggest local business refrain from advertising products and services on NBC during the month of the one hour episode of “murder in the dark”. (Or whatever the title) featuring The murder of Mia and the city of Seattle.

Leemos vía Alternative Nation que la revista Mojo incluye en su último número una entrevista con Mark Lanegan en la que asegura que este mismo mes de enero se pondrá a trabajar en la continuación de “Blues Funeral”, su último disco de material original.
Entre otras curiosidades también cuenta que hace poco prestó su voz para un anuncio de ropa interior deportiva y que cuando vio que Peter Hook de Joy Division/New Order le seguía en Twitter, “corrí por mi casa como una cría. Le dije a mi novia, “Mirad zorras!” Es la hostia, son los padrinos.”

In a new interview with MOJO Magazine, Mark Lanegan discusses writing his new Mark Lanegan Band album, his latest covers album Imitations, Lou Reed, doing voice-overs for athletic underwear commercials, why he hates interviews, and more.
Lanegan stated that after playing an acoustic tour, he will resume playing with the Mark Lanegan Band and that “[he’s] starting the follow-up to Blues Funeral in January.” Lanegan says that the Mark Lanegan Band did not really fit the music of Imitations, which included cover versions of Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darin songs, and that instead he has been touring in “classier, mellow settings.”
On the passing of Lou Reed, Lanegan stated: “I don’t think I’ve cried about someone passing away who I had never met since I was a kid and John Lennon died.” On a lighter note, Lanegan stated that he was recently hired to do voiceovers: “a recent one (chuckles) was for athletic underwear.” The singer also added that after Joy Division/New Order’s Peter Hook followed him on Twitter, he “ran around the house like a little girl. I told my girlfriend, check it out, bitches! It’s the shit man, they’re the forefathers.”
